Inventory Control Specialist
Position Summary
The Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for maintaining inventory accuracy, supporting fulfillment efficiency, and managing inventory-related processes across finished goods, fulfillment supplies, and multi-channel operations. This role works closely with Operations leadership to ensure inventory integrity, accurate stock levels, timely replenishment, and operational readiness for company initiatives and product launches.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Management & Reconciliation
- Monitor inventory levels across all warehouse zones and identify shortages, discrepancies, and aged inventory.
- Manage FIFO (First In, First Out) compliance and oversee stock rotation based on lot numbers and expiration dates.
- Perform inventory reconciliations, adjustments, and root cause analysis for variances and damages.
- Conduct cycle counts and maintain detailed timelines for completion.
- Maintain accurate SKU-level data within the Warehouse Management System (WMS).
- Audit reserve and active inventory zones to ensure stock accuracy and compliance.
Replenishment & Warehouse Optimization
- Identify slotting and replenishment requirements based on demand forecasts, sales trends, and new SKU introductions.
- Optimize replenishment processes by adjusting min/max inventory levels to reduce touches and travel time.
- Coordinate stock transfers between warehouse zones and departments to support operational efficiency.
- Verify active zone staging levels and storefront inventory availability.
Receiving, Purchasing & Product Verification
- Manage purchase order receipts for finished goods and supplies.
- Verify UPCs, SKU details, lot numbers, expiration dates, artwork versions, and specifications against purchase orders and spec sheets.
- Input and maintain PO documentation, tracking records, and inventory adjustments.
- Support product launches through storage setup, slotting, and inventory preparation.
Shipping, Returns & Cross-Functional Support
- Coordinate and manage cross-departmental shipment requests, including associated routing, delivery scheduling, and shipment tracking communications to ensure timely and accurate fulfillment.
- Oversee multi-channel returns processing, including logging, quality checks, receipt capture, and lot verification.
- Collaborate with Operations Supervisor(s) to support efficient stock staging and fulfillment sequencing.
Process Improvement & Compliance
- Audit inventory processes and team compliance, identifying opportunities for improvement and corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for inventory-related workflows, including:
- Replenishment
- Cycle counts
- Inventory adjustments
- Returns processing
- Stock transfers
- Create visual aids and process documentation to support operational improvements and training initiatives.
- Maintain 5S standards and identify areas for operational enhancement.
Reporting & Analysis
- Generate detailed reports on inventory adjustments, discrepancies, replenishment frequency, and operational trends.
- Capture and track discrepancy percentages by SKU, zone, and inventory class.
- Support forecasting and Available To Promise (ATP) management through inventory reporting and supply monitoring.
- Assist with obsolete inventory review and quality checking.
Qualifications
- Experience in inventory control, warehouse operations, or supply chain environments.
- Strong understanding of inventory management principles, including FIFO (First In, First Out), cycle counting, and reconciliation.
- Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and inventory tracking software.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools preferred.
